Privacy Policy

How we look after the information you share with us, in plain English.

This policy explains how Jefferies Funerals Limited, trading as Jefferies Funeral Directors, uses personal information collected through this website. We are the data controller for that information. You can reach us at 15 Carlton Terrace, Portslade, East Sussex BN41 1XF, on 01273 411662 or by email at simonp.jefferies@btconnect.com.

This policy covers the website only. When you ask us to arrange a funeral we will explain separately what information we need and how it is used in making those arrangements.

Information we collect from this website

If you use our contact form, we collect the name, telephone number, email address (if you give one) and message that you enter. That is the only personal information this website asks you for.

Our hosting and email providers also process technical information such as your IP address and browser type in order to deliver the site securely and to send your enquiry to us.

How we use it, and our lawful basis

We use the details you send solely to reply to your enquiry and, where you ask us to, to begin discussing funeral arrangements. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests — responding to someone who has contacted us about our services — and, where an arrangement follows, the performance of a contract with you.

We never sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing without your clear agreement.

Who your information is shared with

Enquiries submitted through the form are delivered to our own email inbox by our website host and email delivery provider, who act on our instructions only. If a funeral is arranged, relevant details may be shared with third parties needed to carry it out — for example a crematorium, cemetery, celebrant, minister or doctor — and with our regulator or professional body where we are required to do so.

How long we keep it

General website enquiries that do not lead to an arrangement are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted. Where we go on to arrange a funeral, records are kept for as long as needed to meet our legal, accounting and professional obligations.

Cookies

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. A small number of cookies or similar storage may be set by the third-party features described below, and by our host for security and to keep the site working correctly. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will continue to work normally.

Third-party content embedded on this site

Google reviews. Our home page shows reviews from our Google Business Profile and links to Google. If you follow that link, Google will handle your visit under its own privacy policy.

Encore Tribute Garden. Our funeral notices and donations page embeds a memorial and donations widget provided by For My Encore. Anything you enter there — a tribute, a message or a donation — is processed by Encore and its payment provider under their own privacy policies, not ours.

Fonts and maps links. Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, and our directions links open Google Maps. These providers may record your IP address as part of serving that request.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it. Please contact us using the details above and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will appear on this page. Our Terms of Business set out the separate arrangements that apply to the funeral services we provide.
